So basically…when did I start exercising…well I’ve never been one to do proper exercise routines. I like to do an activity which I enjoy that also gives me exercise. I guess what really prompted me to be a little bit more serious was when I had surgery about ten/twelve years ago and I wanted to regain my health and my fitness so I started cycling.

I started exercising with Outdoor Fitness Bahamas  under the watchful eye of a fabulous certified trainer Craig Walkine Sr. about 10 years ago. I’ve run 12 Half Marathons in total including a few International events, Havana 3 times and Miami once three years ago.

Preparing for Disaster

A tropical wave, named 97L, formed off the coast of Africa in late September, travelled west across the Atlantic, and upon reaching the Eastern Caribbean became Hurricane Matthew on September 28th 2016. Matthew rapidly intensified and became a Category 5 storm on September 30th and proceeded to track northwards, towards Haiti, Cuba and ultimately The Bahamas and on to the US East Coast.


Labelled a major storm and significant threat from early on, Matthew was taken very seriously by the Bahamian population. ERA Dupuch Real Estate once again sponsored Team ERA to compete in the GAFFW triathlon event in Treasure Cay Abaco this past week-end with the Olympic Event held on Saturday March 21st, 2015.

We all rubbed our eyes, rolled out of bed at Oh Dark Thirty and wandered over to the staging area in Treasure Cay next to the gorgeous 3 mile, world-renowned beach. It was pitch black! Soon enough as the sun was rising the swimmers set off and the race was on!

Team ERA is once again in training as they get ready to compete in the annual GAFFW Great Abaco Family Fitness Weekend this weekend in Treasure Cay. See GAFFW They will be competing in the Olympic Event, in the water will be Katie Roach, and on the bike will be our very own Ken Chaplin – and for the first time the runner will be 13 year old Joshua Kelly of Abaco.
