Why move here anyway?

Let’s start off with an easy one. One has to simply take a look at the beautiful environment with its sunny climate, and friendly residents to understand why anyone would want to spend more time here.

It’s also close – relatively speaking. The sunny islands can be easily reached from numerous international locations via a direct flight, closest of all is…

Preparing for Disaster

hurricane matthews pathway
A tropical wave, named 97L, formed off the coast of Africa in late September, travelled west across the Atlantic, and upon reaching the Eastern Caribbean became Hurricane Matthew on September 28th 2016. Matthew rapidly intensified and became a Category 5 storm on September 30th and proceeded to track northwards, towards Haiti, Cuba and ultimately The Bahamas and on to the US East Coast.

Labelled a major storm and significant threat from early on, Matthew was taken very seriously by the Bahamian population. Preparations began early, and picked up pace as Matthew moved, ever so slowly, closer. Matthew had the capital, New Providence in his path and the residents were taking no chances. By the mid afternoon on Wednesday the…

Short term vacation rentals have become increasingly popular in The Bahamas. Investors are changing their attitude and sometimes switching from long term leases to vacation rentals. Any drawbacks of short term are far out weighed by the premium that is paid. It is a win win situation, with renters paying less and getting more than they would in a hotel and landlords getting a good return on their investment. We have had an increasing number of savvy investors purchasing homes and condominiums with the intent to use them for vacation rentals. It is perfect for foreigners wishing to purchase in The Bahamas. They can purchase a home and then offset any costs by renting it out, blocking off the dates they wish to use it either for themselves or friends and…

Whether you are looking to give your Bahamian home a facelift or getting ready to put it on the market, upgrading your home's curb appeal can make a huge difference. In fact, a little paint and some elbow grease can add thousands of dollars worth of value to your home and help it to sell faster. Here are a few simple projects you can do to help up the curb appeal of your island getaway.

Give your home a good wash. By simply taking a bucket full of soapy water to the outside of your house, you can add $10,000-$15,000 to the sale price of your home. Use a long-handled, soft-bristled brush to remove any dust and dirty buildup that your exterior may have acquired, or you can rent a pressure-washer to get the job done faster. Make sure to wash the inside…

700 Bahamas Islands?

Which Island should I visit? Aren’t they all the same? A question often asked to me by buyers or vacation planners. My first answer is “Absolutley Not”. They are not all the same. Not even remotely. Each island offers it’s own totally unique experience to the visitor. The only thing that is the same is the temperature! And the SUNSHINE!

New Providence Poinciana Trees from Bahamar
As pilot I used to love flying in from the south east, from maybe Exuma or Rock Sound Eleuthera around this time of year. We would hit the southern shoreline and traverse the island heading to towards the airport. We crossed the land with a birds eye view and were treated to a stunning display of the gorgeous and vibrant Poincianna trees that cover New Providence, a carpet of green with vivid red bursts giving the appearance that the island is on fire in a beautiful way.

The view from the atop the Baha Mar resort during our recent site tour!

Truly a wonderful sight, the almost breathtaking intensity of the colors and from the air you see just how much of the island is home to these trees that are so stunning when in bloom.

ERA Dupuch Real Estate once again sponsored Team ERA to compete in the GAFFW triathlon event in Treasure Cay Abaco this past week-end with the Olympic Event held on Saturday March 21st, 2015.

Sunrise

We all rubbed our eyes, rolled out of bed at Oh Dark Thirty and wandered over to the staging area in Treasure Cay next to the gorgeous 3 mile, world-renowned beach. It was pitch black! Soon enough as the sun was rising the swimmers set off and the race was on!

Katie Roach swam an impressive speed at 22.35 minutes for the 1500 metre distance (pretty much 1 mile) in the unusually very murky water (created by large ocean swells from the day before) and I hopped on my bike and peddled madly down the Great Abaco Highway even having to negotiate a…
