The 700 Islands of The Bahamas

700 Bahamas Islands?

Which Island should I visit? Aren’t they all the same? A question often asked to me by buyers or vacation planners. My first answer is “Absolutley Not”. They are not all the same. Not even remotely. Each island offers it’s own totally unique experience to the visitor. The only thing that is the same is the temperature! And the SUNSHINE!

Never Run Out Of Things To Do On Nassau/Paradise Island

If you like to dine in a different 4 star restaurant every night before hopping out to a casino and local nightclubs and hotspots, then Nassau Paradise Island is your best bet. Nassau is the capitol of the Bahamas and so has the most dense population of any island in our chain. There’s lots and lots to do but you’re going to be doing it with lots and lots of other people. Besides the touristy shops of downtown Nassau and the Straw Market, how about some Deep Sea Fishing, relaxing on the beach, or experiencing some of the great dive spots that surround the island? Nassau, believe it or not, has great fishing of all types as well as boating and beaching. Nassau is surrounded by countless reefs and shoals and offers some wonderful diving, deep sea fishing and bone fishing. A day trip to Rose Island near Nassau will be unforgettable. Renting a boat around Nassau is very difficult and not suggested because of the shallow water combined with many reefs and rocky bars that only an experienced boater can navigate. Nassau and Paradise Island offer a great central location and hub that's easy to access from all over the United States and Europe and you'll never run out of things to do.

Andros Island Offers Great Bonefishing

If, on the other hand, a quiet and peaceful experience is what you’re looking for, then there are many options. Wherever you pick, you will find crystal clear water, white sand beaches and the best fishing and beaching in this part of the world. An avid fisherman would be drawn to the sand flats and inland creeks of Andros Island. Andros is the home of vast sand flats. A large land mass with magnificent inlets and creeks make this the Bonefisherman’s Paradise. Some of the interesting resorts in Andros include Kamalame Cay. Imagine sitting on a quiet beach with a good book with nothing to do and all day to do it? Or exploring historic caves and blue holes. Bonefishing in a secluded bay, casting right off the beach or in the shallows.

Perhaps Spanish Wells and Russell Island, Eleuthera may be the spot for you. They are two small islands, joined together by a short bridge. Home of the Bahama Lobster Pirates! Spanish Wells is a very small island with no crime and wonderful local community. Spanish Wells offers some great Bahamas real estate bargains  for second home buyers along the lovely sand beach that runs the entire north shore.

Looking to catch that record tarpon in the morning and then shoot out to snag Wahoo and Marlin in the afternoon? Deep Water Cay, Grand Bahama has been one of the top spots for fishing of every type since the 1950s. With it’s own private runway, this is THE hotspot for the serious fisherman. Fish for just about every fish found in Bahamian waters all within a mile of this development. Two and three bedroom Deep Water Cay villas  offer magnificent views and the ability to walk out of your back door straight to the bonefish flats.

Miles Of White Sand Beaches On Eleuthera And Long Island

Eleuthera and  Long Island offer the some of the most magnificent beaches in The Bahamas. Both offer endless white sand beaches that go on for miles. Both offer caves and blue holes (including the world famous free diving mecca Dean's Blue Hole - watch this amazing video) and sanctuaries where the locals live off the land and the sea for the most part. It’s common to see goat crossing the street in these rural communities.

Other great fishing spots are found around islands like the Berry Islands, Grand Bahama, The Abacos, Cat Island and Hemingway's Bimini. Many a record Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi have been caught in these waters.

Deep Sea Fishing in The Bahamas

Sailing and boating enthusiasts flock to Abaco for it's warm and tranquil waters and unique island hopping. The Sea of Abaco is protected on two sides by land, hence the easy boating, perfect for boater inexperienced in reading the local waters.

Eleuthera is a large island with magnificent pink sand beaches. Rent a small car and explore this island from North to South. Hop on a ferry and visit quaint Harbour Island, second home of many rich and famous and one of the top ten beaches in the world,  Pink Sands Beach.

Quiet And Affordable Cat Island

Cat Island is secluded, pristine and quiet. Affordable homes are available on this island and small resorts like Fernandez Bay Resort offer vacation rentals.

Regatta time in Exuma is exciting with many local festivals and activities to keep you occupied. Spearfisherman and boaters may want to travel the Exuma Cays or Long Island for the shallow waters teeming with wildlife.
