Believe it or not, Nassau has probably the largest variety of dive sites in The Bahamas. This is because of our proximity to the Tongue of the Ocean, which can be best described as an underwater Grand Canyon, which merges with the Florida Gulf Stream and the Atlantic Ocean, providing a plethora or marine life and habitats for eager divers to discover. The Tongue of the Ocean offers great wall dives, which start somewhere around 60ft and drop off to thousands of feet! Along this wall hide lobsters, octopus, and lionfish; you will see turtles out in the deep cruising, massive tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi and at more times than not, a local Reef Shark cruising by in the distance.

The great thing about the wall dives is that you don’t have to dive to great

Summer is here and school is out. Baseball and soccer seasons are over, the weekends are free again. Summer is boating season for many families in The Bahamas. A typical Saturday, Sunday or evening jaunt would be to Rose Island, only minutes away. However, when the weather looks good, the wind is forecast to be calm, and the ocean is flat, we have what is known as an ‘Exuma Day!’.

Exuma Cays Bahamas

The Exumas form a chain of around 365 islands and cays (yes, one for every day of the year!), that lie scattered to the south east of Nassau, New Providence, and you can’t miss them if you head straight out of the Port New Providence canal and keep going.

About 80 miles away, to the north of Staniel Cay, is Big Majors Spot, home of the swimming pigs, (and a couple of

Brigadoon PoolNo home in The Bahamas, whether it is a primary residence, your second home, or an income producing property, is complete without a crystal clear, sparkling pool. Perfect for cooling off in on the hot summer days, your pool will be the spot in the long summers where you chill, hang and relax, the focal part of your outdoor space.

< The pool at this Brigadoon Estates listing comes with a bar, perfect for parties and entertaining!

The age old question when installing a new pool, and one which the pool contractor should ask you is, 'Do you want a Saltwater pool or a Chlorine pool?'. To make the right choice,  we need to understand the difference between the two, and pick the one that suits. Note, the jury is still out on which one is better!

New Providence Poinciana Trees from BahamarAs pilot I used to love flying in from the south east, from maybe Exuma or Rock Sound Eleuthera around this time of year. We would hit the southern shoreline and traverse the island heading to towards the airport. We crossed the land with a birds eye view and were treated to a stunning display of the gorgeous and vibrant Poincianna trees that cover New Providence, a carpet of green with vivid red bursts giving the appearance that the island is on fire in a beautiful way.

The view from the atop the Baha Mar resort during our recent site tour!

Truly a wonderful sight, the almost breathtaking intensity of the colors and from the air you see just how much of the island is home to these trees that are so stunning when in bloom.

While there are exceptions to every rule, it is pretty obvious that land can be found much cheaper off the island of Nassau/New Providence. Nassau is the capitol. It's the hotspot. But it's also one of the smallest islands in the Bahamas. Small supply and a large demand for Nassau real estate keeps prices higher than the Family Islands.

Islands like Abaco, Eleuthera, Cat Island, Exuma and Long Island offer wonderful deals that are extremely affordable. It's up to you the level of tranquility that you are looking for.

Secluded beaches are the norm in the Family Islands

Treasure Cay, Abaco for instance, has one of the world's finest beaches. You can find Treasure Cay lots in small marina and beachfront communities for less than $30,000.00.

Short term vacation rentals have become increasingly popular in The Bahamas. Investors are changing their attitude and sometimes switching from long term leases to vacation rentals. Any drawbacks of short term are far out weighed by the premium that is paid. It is a win win situation, with renters paying less and getting more than they would in a hotel and landlords getting a good return on their investment. We have had an increasing number of savvy investors purchasing homes and condominiums with the intent to use them for vacation rentals. It is perfect for foreigners wishing to purchase in The Bahamas. They can purchase a home and then offset any costs by renting it out, blocking off the dates they wish to use it either for themselves or friends and

Whether you are looking to give your Bahamian home a facelift or getting ready to put it on the market, upgrading your home's curb appeal can make a huge difference. In fact, a little paint and some elbow grease can add thousands of dollars worth of value to your home and help it to sell faster. Here are a few simple projects you can do to help up the curb appeal of your island getaway.

Give your home a good wash. By simply taking a bucket full of soapy water to the outside of your house, you can add $10,000-$15,000 to the sale price of your home. Use a long-handled, soft-bristled brush to remove any dust and dirty buildup that your exterior may have acquired, or you can rent a pressure-washer to get the job done faster. Make sure to wash the inside
