Early November always marks the time we 'fall backward' and 'loose' an hour of daylight. What does that mean to us? As boaters, it means we have to plan ahead and leave early as darkness comes sooner than usual and we don't want to be caught out coming home from boating in the dusk! It usually works out though as the children in the household show no regard for the change of time and are up at the crack dawn!

Bahamas Beaches

This past time change, Sunday November 5th, was a perfect boating day, the water calm and warm, and still a nice temperature for a quick dip!

Spectacular up and down Rose Island offers one of the best beaches in the Bahamas. Twelve miles long, sandy and incredibly pretty, with reefs, shoals, and every color blue you can imagine. The…

bahamas real estate market shift

"Beauty is that which attracts your soul…you feel that the hands deep within your inner self are stretched forth to bring her into the domain of your heart."

Kahlil Gibran

Just as in our personal relationships, I think it is fair to say that we also feel an attraction when we have found the house of our dreams - it is soul deep. It just clicks and there is a love that some will never understand and others see immediately.

Do you as the buyer or seller know what that beauty is in today’s market?

In real estate when we see trends towards a particular neigbourhood, district or style of home, could we say that most of us now have the same heart? We share the same desires? The inexplicable, we want what we want, when we want it,…

Preparing for Disaster

hurricane matthews pathway
A tropical wave, named 97L, formed off the coast of Africa in late September, travelled west across the Atlantic, and upon reaching the Eastern Caribbean became Hurricane Matthew on September 28th 2016. Matthew rapidly intensified and became a Category 5 storm on September 30th and proceeded to track northwards, towards Haiti, Cuba and ultimately The Bahamas and on to the US East Coast.

Labelled a major storm and significant threat from early on, Matthew was taken very seriously by the Bahamian population. Preparations began early, and picked up pace as Matthew moved, ever so slowly, closer. Matthew had the capital, New Providence in his path and the residents were taking no chances. By the mid afternoon on Wednesday the…

Short term vacation rentals have become increasingly popular in The Bahamas. Investors are changing their attitude and sometimes switching from long term leases to vacation rentals. Any drawbacks of short term are far out weighed by the premium that is paid. It is a win win situation, with renters paying less and getting more than they would in a hotel and landlords getting a good return on their investment. We have had an increasing number of savvy investors purchasing homes and condominiums with the intent to use them for vacation rentals. Whether you are looking to give your Bahamian home a facelift or getting ready to put it on the market, upgrading your home's curb appeal can make a huge difference. Use a long-handled, soft-bristled brush to remove any dust and dirty buildup that your exterior may have acquired, or you can rent a pressure-washer to get the job done faster. Make sure to wash the inside…
