Old Fort Bay Bahamas: Where History Meets Modern Luxury

Old Fort Bay is more than just a neighbourhood—it’s a piece of Bahamian history brought to life. Located along the western shores of New Providence Island, just east of Lyford Cay, it boasts stunning tropical landscaping and pristine beaches.

The area takes its name from an 18th-century British colonial fort that once stood here, built to guard against pirates and protect the island’s trade routes. Over time, the fort fell into disrepair but was lovingly restored and incorporated into the community's centrepiece: the Old Fort Bay Club.

Living here isn’t just about the beautiful beaches or stunning homes—it’s about embracing the lifestyle.

Picture mornings walking along private shores, afternoons spent boating from your backyard, and evenings enjoying the exclusive amenities of the Old Fort Bay Club. Whether you’re looking for a waterfront estate or a canal-front villa, this community has something to match your dream.

At ERA Dupuch Real Estate, we’re passionate about helping you find your place in this one-of-a-kind community. Let’s learn why Old Fort Bay is among the most desirable neighbourhoods in The Bahamas.

Old Fort Bay Club History and Amenities

The Old Fort Bay Club is set in a restored 18th-century fort. During the 1800s, the fort was used as a plantation house for all the sisal growing in the area. In the 1920s, the building fell into the hands of James Cox Brady, who won it in a card game.

After Brady's death, his widow remarried, and she and her husband filled the property with treasures they had collected from their world travels. After the death of Brady’s widow, the Old Fort was left empty until 2002.

After decades of sitting empty, Old Fort Bay Club was restored to its original glory by preserving historic features. The surrounding gardens and the silk cotton tree outside the club were also revitalised, bringing a new sense of life back to the property.

Today, members wake up early to walk along the white sandy beach and then enjoy an espresso while they read the newspaper at the club. Children play amongst the old cannons and caves, pretending to be pirates, and families enjoy the sparkling waters of one of the best beaches in New Providence.

Here’s what you can look forward to as a resident of the Old Fort Bay community:

Dining: Enjoy meals with Caribbean flair at the Sea-View Terrace, or keep it casual at the Sand Bar. The restaurants here are recognised island-wide for their delicious and modern fare, fresh produce, and wonderful service, with a staff who will remember not only your name but also your drink order.

Beach: Since 2002, the Old Fort Bay Club beach has been a cherished retreat in Western New Providence. With umbrella-shaded loungers, refreshing cocktails, and the historic Old Fort as a picturesque backdrop, it’s the ultimate spot to unwind. Families can enjoy board games, non-motorised water sports, or a friendly volleyball match, making it the perfect setting for a relaxed and memorable day by the sea.

Fitness Center: From yoga classes to cardio sessions, the fitness centre is where you can get your sweat on. It has state-of-the-art equipment, satellite radio, and flat-screen TVs to entertain you while you work out.

Spa: For rest and recovery, visit the private spa at the Old Fort Bay Club for natural restoration remedies like deep tissue therapy, Swedish full muscle relaxation massage, or hot stone therapy.

Marina: The marina at Old Fort Bay is a standout feature, offering private dock slips and exceptional storm protection for boat owners. It is designed with generous canal systems and direct access to open waters, providing convenience and security for yachters and boating enthusiasts alike.
